THE STEADY STATE ENDORSES BECCA BALINT FOR VERMONT’S AT-LARGE CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

WASHINGTON — The Steady State, an organization of more than 420 former national security, intelligence, diplomatic, military, law enforcement, and homeland security officials, today endorsed Hon. Becca Balint for Vermont’s At-Large Congressional District.

Becca Balint represents Vermont in the U.S. House, the first woman to hold the seat. Born in Germany in a U.S. Army hospital to an immigrant father and working-class mother, she moved to Vermont in 1994, settling permanently in 1997, and built a career as a middle school teacher in four rural public schools. She served ten years in the Vermont Senate, becoming its first woman President Pro Tem. In Congress, she serves on the House Judiciary and Budget Committees and is a leader in the Congressional Progressive Caucus, focused on affordable housing, mental health care, and protecting democracy.

Becca Balint demonstrates a consistent commitment to the rule of law, supports nonpartisan oversight and accountability of the Executive Branch, exhibits a substantive understanding of the national security challenges facing the country, and upholds the democratic norms and ethical standards of public service that the organization’s criteria require.

“Becca Balint represents a kind of leadership our members spent their careers hoping to see more of: serious, principled, and unafraid to put the country first,” said Steven Cash, Executive Director of The Steady State.
