Gregory Meeks (NY-05)

WASHINGTON — The Steady State, an organization of more than 420 former national security, intelligence, diplomatic, military, law enforcement, and homeland security officials, today endorsed Hon. Gregory Meeks for New York’s 5th Congressional District.

Gregory Meeks represents New York’s 5th Congressional District and has built a career focused on economic opportunity, international engagement, and strengthening communities. A graduate of Adelphi University and Howard University School of Law, he serves as the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee and as a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee. Throughout his career, Meeks has championed infrastructure investment, small business growth, diversity and inclusion, affordable housing, gun violence prevention, and expanding America’s diplomatic leadership abroad.

Gregory Meeks demonstrates a consistent commitment to the rule of law, supports nonpartisan oversight and accountability of the Executive Branch, exhibits a substantive understanding of the national security challenges facing the country, and upholds the democratic norms and ethical standards of public service that the organization’s criteria require.

“This endorsement is a statement of confidence: that Gregory Meeks will defend our democratic institutions with the same seriousness our members brought to their own service,” said Steven Cash, Executive Director of The Steady State.
