SUMMARY: IN ACCORDANCE WITH MFA DIRECTIVE 1826-APRIL-1 THIS EMBASSY HAS INITIATED A REGULAR SERIES OF ANALYTICAL DISPATCHES REGARDING THE INTERNAL DYNAMICS OF THE UNITED STATES. THE SERIES, DESIGNATED “THE FREDONIA PROJECT,” WILL BE CIRCULATED UNDER STANDARD SITREP PROTOCOL. UNAUTHORIZED PUBLICATION HAS BEEN OBSERVED VIA THIRD-PARTY ENTITY KNOWN AS “THE STEADY STATE.” PRESUMED LEAK. NO ACTION REQUIRED.
On 3 November 2026, the U.S. population slapped President Donald J. Trump, a slap that was heard around the world. It was not simply a rebuke. It was a full-on repudiation of Trump, his political allies, his followers and the money donated by his Number One Fanboy, the richest man in America, Elon Musk. (Ambassador Comment: As numerous election watchers and friends of this Embassy pointed out, many, many Americans gave Talarico, Brown, Turek, Anderson, Jackson, and the other winners small donations of $100.00 more or less, and their candidates won. Elon donated millions and his candidates lost. Who is the genius now?)
If one trusts the exit polling, there is a sense that the Democratic Party needs to get in front of three critical issues that the Trump administration instituted, promoted and for which they were held responsible by the voting public.
The Economy (Ambassador Comment: Tariffs and Iran War)
Undermining Democracy (Ambassador Comment: Republican Congressional abdication of responsibility as co-equal branch of government. )
Corruption: (Ambassador Comment: the grift and corruption of the Trump entire Trump family enabled by the abdication of Congressional responsibility for oversight)
The Iran War
The Iran war appears to have not been an electoral issue per-se, but was an important source of voter dissatisfaction with the performance of the Trump administration. (Ambassador Comment: No surprise here, given the manner in which this war of choice was started without pursuing any realistic negotiations with Iran and without any real coordination with Congress and after depleting national security institutions of virtually all expertise and ignoring the advice of those remaining in said institutions. Then going to war on the basis of constantly-evolving objectives, with constantly changing tactics, and without, to this day, an end-game. )
The elected and re-elected officials serving in the new majority ignore these reported electoral outcomes to their own peril and that of the U.S. democracy. The new Congress must reassume its constitutional duties as a separate but equal branch of government. It must address corruption, grift and dishonesty that has been the bedrock of the Trump administration and which has spread beyond. And, at the same time, it must govern, addressing the critical, current economic concerns while beginning the work to reestablish a government responsible to all Americans. (Ambassador Comment: As it happens, the Fredonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains a residence for those officials appointed to the position of Ambassador to the US. That residence is in Maryland, in the District that Congressman Jaime Raskin represents. He is exceptionally popular in this district and in the country, and he has both the legal expertise, temperament and drive to tackle any tasks for which he is responsible.)
Judge Michael Luttig, is a well-respected, conservative, jurist and who is disaffiliated from the Republican Party, saying that it no longer aligns with his beliefs. He published a post-election piece that eloquently summed up what happened in this election in a piece entitled “The American People Answered the Call” in which he noted that the American people turned their government, ‘back into the channel in which the Framers of the Constitution originally placed it.’” (Ambassador Comment: That sums it up nicely.)
