Pramila Jayapal (WA-07)
WASHINGTON — The Steady State, an organization of more than 420 former national security, intelligence, diplomatic, military, law enforcement, and homeland security officials, today endorsed Hon. Pramila Jayapal for Washington's 7th Congressional District.
Pramila Jayapal represents Washington’s Seventh Congressional District and has built a career around civil rights, immigration policy, democratic accountability, and congressional oversight. Before entering Congress, Jayapal worked in the nonprofit sector and founded OneAmerica, an immigrant-advocacy organization, before serving in the Washington State Senate and being elected to Congress in 2016. In Congress, her relevant profile is rooted in Judiciary Committee oversight, immigration and civil-liberties work, and Foreign Affairs Committee service focused on Africa and South and Central Asia.
Pramila Jayapal demonstrates a consistent commitment to the rule of law, supports nonpartisan oversight and accountability of the Executive Branch, exhibits a substantive understanding of the national security challenges facing the country, and upholds the democratic norms and ethical standards of public service that the organization's criteria require.
"This endorsement is not about ideology, it's about principled leadership and commitment to oversight. Pramila Jayapal has shown through her actions a real commitment to the principles our democracy depends on," said Steven Cash, Executive Director of The Steady State.
