Don Beyer (VA-08)
WASHINGTON — The Steady State, an organization of more than 420 former national security, intelligence, diplomatic, military, law enforcement, and homeland security officials, today endorsed Hon. Don Beyer for Virginia’s 8th Congressional District.
Don Beyer represents Virginia’s 8th District, running for reelection. Son of U.S. Army officer Donald Sternoff Beyer Sr., he graduated from Gonzaga College High School and Williams College, and spent four decades building his family’s Northern Virginia car business before selling it in 2019. He served as Lieutenant Governor of Virginia from 1990 to 1998, advocating for Virginians with disabilities, and was the Democratic nominee for Governor in 1997. In Congress, he is the Senior House Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee and serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means, which holds jurisdiction over health care, trade, tax policy, Social Security, and Medicare.
Don Beyer demonstrates a consistent commitment to the rule of law, supports nonpartisan oversight and accountability of the Executive Branch, exhibits a substantive understanding of the national security challenges facing the country, and upholds the democratic norms and ethical standards of public service that the organization’s criteria require.
“The Steady State was built on the belief that some things matter more than party. Hon. Don Beyer’s record reflects that same belief,” said Steven Cash, Executive Director of The Steady State.
