James Walkinshaw (VA-11)

WASHINGTON — The Steady State, an organization of more than 420 former national security, intelligence, diplomatic, military, law enforcement, and homeland security officials, today endorsed Hon. James Walkinshaw for Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.

James Walkinshaw represents Virginia’s 11th district. A lifelong Virginian, he grew up in Prince William County, graduated from Unity Reed High School and New York University, and served on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors before spending more than a decade as Chief of Staff to Congressman Connolly, helping pass the Affordable Care Act and secure major federal investments for Virginia. He is the only Democrat serving on both the House Oversight Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee, where he has worked on cybersecurity and oversight of ICE and DHS, and founded the first-ever Congressional Federal Workforce Caucus.

James Walkinshaw demonstrates a consistent commitment to the rule of law, supports nonpartisan oversight and accountability of the Executive Branch, exhibits a substantive understanding of the national security challenges facing the country, and upholds the democratic norms and ethical standards of public service that the organization’s criteria require.

“This endorsement reflects our confidence that James Walkinshaw will bring the same seriousness to this office that our members brought to their own careers in public service,” said Steven Cash, Executive Director of The Steady State.
